Tragedies

I'm sure that once you look one or two generations up and outwards, you do come across some family sadness, but this list seems to suggest that my ancestors had more tragedy than most.  I've excluded illness and death in infancy in this list.

Robert and John Leggett 1882, my Great Grandfather's brother and his son

Thomas C Watson 1889, my great great grandfather.

John Watson, my Great Grandfather's brother

Alfred Watson 1902, my Great Grandfather's other brother

Bertie Young 1916, my grandfather's brother, during the German bombardment.

My grandfather's brother Bertie was one of the unlucky ones, being killed during the bombardment. Stories differ, he was either looking out of the window for his sister or actually out in the street looking for her when he was hit by shrapnel. It is sad that I never knew about this story growing up as a child, despite meeting my grandfather many times over the years, but he never spoke of it. I only found out about it when I was searching for various family names in the newspaper archive.

Eileen  Watson  my Great Grandfather's brother's daughter

Sedcole daughter 1936 my Great Grandfather's wife's sister's husband great grandchild

Florence Leggett my grandfather's sister.

George Eric Leggett motorbike 1939 my grandfather's brother's son

Henry L F Thompson March Qtr 1945, my great grandmother's grandson, overcome by carbon monoxide after someone failed to leave a ventilation panel open on a boat.

Florence Leggett, after surviving the 1938 accident above, died in a fall.

Eric Lovekin 1968, the father of my grandmother's second child, after her separation from my grandfather.  He 'fell' from a building.

Robert John Leggett 1992, my cousin's uncle, drowned in the bath, after developing epilepsy following being hit by a truck.
